Consultant Emergency Physician & Head of Emergency Department

Assoc. Prof. (C) Dr Shahrul Nizam Ahmad Zamzali is a Consultant Emergency Physician and Head of the Emergency Department at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital. With more than two decades of experience in healthcare, he has developed extensive expertise in emergency medicine and the management of patients requiring urgent and critical care.

Dr Shahrul obtained his Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSc) and MB BCh BAO from Ireland before pursuing his Master of Emergency Medicine at Universiti Malaya. He also holds a Master of Disaster Risk Management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, reflecting his broader interest in emergency preparedness, disaster management and healthcare response.

In his role as an emergency physician, Dr Shahrul is involved in the assessment and management of a wide range of acute medical and surgical emergencies. As Head of the Emergency Department, he also plays an important role in supporting the delivery of efficient, safe and patient-centred emergency services.

Beyond his clinical responsibilities, Dr Shahrul is actively involved in public health education and professional knowledge sharing. He has contributed to discussions and educational articles on topics including choking and first aid, heat-related illness, haze and air pollution, cancer awareness and emergency preparedness.

Dr Shahrul is passionate about improving public understanding of emergency care and empowering individuals with the knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately during medical emergencies. He is committed to delivering timely, evidence-based and compassionate care while continuously promoting safety, preparedness and better health outcomes within the community.
