Dr Mohana Raj Thanapal is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with over 20 years of medical experience. He obtained his medical degree (MD) from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2004 and completed his Master of Surgery at Universiti Malaya in 2012.

His professional qualifications include memberships and fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and England. Following his postgraduate studies, he served as a General Surgeon at a government hospital in Malaysia. In 2015, he entered the Malaysian Colorectal Subspecialty program, which included international fellowship training in the United Kingdom under the International Surgical Training Programme (ISTP). During his tenure in the UK, he completed clinical attachments at Whittington Hospital and St. Mark’s Hospital, London.

Dr Mohana currently maintains a sessional practice at Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 (DSH2). He is also an adjunct lecturer, contributing to the clinical training of junior medical practitioners.

Clinical Focus & Procedures

Dr Mohana’s clinical practice focuses on the surgical management of both benign and malignant colorectal conditions. His areas of technical focus include:
• Colorectal Oncology: Surgical management of colon and rectal cancer using both open and laparoscopic (minimally invasive) approaches.
• Proctology: Treatment for benign conditions such as Haemorrhoids (including laser surgery), Fistula-in-Ano, and Pilonidal Sinus.
• General Surgery: Management of Hernias and Gallstones (Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy).
• Endoscopy: Diagnostic and therapeutic OGDS (Gastroscopy) and Colonoscopy.
• Soft Tissue Surgery: Excision of lipomas and sebaceous cysts.

• Thursday: 1 pm until 5 pm
• Saturday: 8 am until 12 pm
