During the procedure, a long, thin, flexible tube called a catheter is gently inserted into a blood vessel in your wrist or groin and guided up to your heart. A safe contrast dye is then injected, allowing high-resolution X-ray imaging to highlight your coronary arteries in real time. This helps your cardiologist identify narrowings, blockages, heart valve conditions, and evaluate overall heart muscle function.
