Datuk Dr. David Tang Teik Yew is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon with extensive expertise in the surgical management of heart, lung and thoracic conditions. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Mangalore University, India, and subsequently pursued advanced surgical training, attaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS Edinburgh) in 1999. Over the course of his career, he has developed extensive experience in adult cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery.

Dr. David further advanced his expertise through specialised cardiothoracic training, including the Certificate of Completion of Cardiothoracic Surgery (CCCTS) at Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) and advanced training in minimally invasive cardiac surgery in Pisa, Italy. His professional credentials also include membership and fellowship of the European Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Adult Cardiac Surgery. His clinical practice encompasses the surgical management of coronary artery disease, heart valve disorders and other complex cardiac and thoracic conditions, with experience in both conventional and minimally invasive surgical approaches.

Throughout his career, Dr. David has contributed significantly to the development of cardiothoracic surgery services in Sabah. He has served in a leadership capacity within the Cardiothoracic Department at Hospital Queen Elizabeth II and continues to provide specialist cardiothoracic services at KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital. His extensive surgical experience, advanced international training and continued commitment to cardiovascular and thoracic care contribute to the provision of comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical services for patients in Sabah.
