Dr. Daren Teoh Choon Yu

Dr. Daren Teoh Choon Yu is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, specialising in the non-surgical treatment of cancer using radiotherapy, systemic anti-cancer therapy and multidisciplinary cancer care. He has extensive experience in the management of solid tumours and provides individualised cancer treatment according to the type and stage of disease, treatment goals and overall health of each patient.

Dr. Daren completed his medical education at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, obtaining a Bachelor of Medical Sciences followed by a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He subsequently trained in general medicine and attained MRCP (UK) before undertaking specialist training in Clinical Oncology in the United Kingdom. He obtained FRCR (UK) and completed his specialist oncology training in 2008.

His oncology training and clinical experience in the United Kingdom included appointments at several major hospitals, followed by a Clinical Research Fellowship and appointment as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. He returned to Sabah in 2010 to lead the newly established Sabah Cancer Centre and was also the founding head of the Clinical Research Centre at Hospital Likas.

As a Clinical Oncologist, Dr. Daren provides treatment for patients with a broad range of solid cancers. His expertise includes external beam radiotherapy, chemoradiotherapy, systemic anti-cancer treatment and brachytherapy, with treatment selected according to the individual cancer diagnosis. His clinical and research experience includes cancers such as lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer and other solid tumours.

Dr. Daren is also actively involved in clinical cancer research and medical education. He has served as principal investigator for numerous international clinical trials and has contributed to research involving new cancer treatments, targeted therapies and different approaches to cancer management. He also lectures on oncology and cancer treatment within Malaysia and across the ASEAN region.

Dr. Daren is registered with the National Specialist Register of Malaysia under Clinical Oncology and currently practises at KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, providing comprehensive cancer consultation, radiotherapy and systemic oncology care for patients in Sabah.
