Datuk Dr. Heng Aik Cheng is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Traumatologist at KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, with decades of experience in the assessment and treatment of conditions affecting the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. His clinical practice encompasses general orthopaedic surgery, musculoskeletal injuries and orthopaedic trauma.

Dr. Heng obtained his MB, BCh, BAO from Queen’s University Belfast in the United Kingdom in 1978 and subsequently attained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1982. He is also a Certified Independent Medical Examiner (CIME) through the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners.

As an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Traumatologist, Dr. Heng provides specialist assessment and management for patients with fractures, joint injuries, dislocations, ligament and tendon injuries, arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions. Treatment is individualised according to the nature and severity of the injury or condition, the patient’s mobility and functional requirements, and overall health.

His extensive experience in orthopaedic trauma supports the management of both acute injuries and longer-term musculoskeletal problems. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may involve medication, immobilisation, rehabilitation, physiotherapy or surgical management where clinically appropriate.

Dr. Heng also provides independent medical and impairment assessment through his CIME qualification. This complements his clinical experience in Orthopaedic Surgery, particularly when evaluating the functional impact of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.

Beyond his clinical practice, Datuk Dr. Heng has been extensively involved in humanitarian and disaster-response medicine through MERCY Malaysia, participating in medical missions across numerous countries affected by natural disasters and conflict. His longstanding involvement in humanitarian work reflects his broader contribution to emergency, trauma and community healthcare.

Datuk Dr. Heng is registered with the National Specialist Register of Malaysia under Orthopaedics and currently practises as a Resident Orthopaedic Surgeon at KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
