Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 (DSH2) Launches 'Less Scars, Less Pain' Campaign to Revolutionise Cardiac Care and Precision Surgery
DAMANSARA Specialist Hospital 2 (DSH2) has introduced its 'Less Scars, Less Pain' campaign, designed to highlight the hospital’s commitment to safer, more precise, and minimally invasive surgery. This initiative emphasises innovative surgical techniques aimed at minimising scarring, pain, and recovery time, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and well-being. The campaign, which runs from August through 31 December 2024, encompasses two distinct phases focusing on advanced cardiac and robotic surgeries.
Phase one, titled ‘Zip-less: Beyond the Beat’, introduces the latest in minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS) innovations, including procedures like coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), mitral valve replacement, and aortic valve replacement. This phase showcases how MICS is redefining cardiac care with techniques that eliminate large incisions, offering patients an option with minimal scarring and faster recovery.
The second phase, ‘Redefined Precision: Where Robotics Meet Expertise’, highlights DSH2’s adoption of robotic technologies that provide surgeons with enhanced precision and control in minimally invasive procedures. These advancements significantly improve surgical outcomes, reduce complications, and support quicker recovery times for patients.
DSH2 Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sok Kheng, explained that these initiatives align with the hospital’s vision of becoming a centre of excellence in heart and lung care, driving advancements in clinical achievements, service quality, technology, education, and research. Tan noted that DSH2 has evolved from a patient care centre to a national training hub, equipping cardiothoracic surgeons with the latest skills and knowledge in MICS-CABG techniques.
Zip-less Cardiac Surgery: A Technological Breakthrough
Described as 'zip-less' cardiac surgery, MICS utilises a small, 3-7 cm incision between the ribs with an endoscopic technique, contrasting sharply with traditional open-heart surgery that requires a sternotomy, which involves a large chest incision and leaves a prominent scar. Prof. Dr. Shahrul Amry stated, “MICS represents the future of safe and effective cardiac surgery. These advancements provide patients with improved treatment options, setting a new standard for surgical care.”
DSH2 is leading the way in cardiac surgery, with MICS setting new benchmarks for patient-centred cardiac care. This approach, commonplace in mature medical centres worldwide, positions DSH2 as a pioneer in Malaysia's healthcare sector.
Raising Standards in Cardiac Surgery and Patient Care
As part of DSH2’s commitment to clinical excellence, the hospital has also established a support group for MICS patients, fostering a community that empowers patients through every stage of their surgical journey. This dedication aligns with DSH2's “Care for Life” ethos and is underscored by the hospital’s recent accolade, the “Rising Star Hospital of the Year” award at the 2024 Global Health Asia-Pacific Awards. This award reflects DSH2’s continuous drive to advance patient care and lead in healthcare innovation through cutting-edge technology and patient education initiatives.
The 'Less Scars, Less Pain' campaign is part of DSH2’s ongoing mission to transform cardiac care, positioning it as a leader in medical excellence and patient-centered innovation. With a relentless commitment to innovation and patient care, DSH2’s heart and lung medical hub is at the forefront of offering minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS), transforming the patient experience and outcomes in cardiac care.
